HIPAA
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (1996). An act of law
in the USA, which sets out a minimum set of requirements that health plans are
required to meet. Also known as "Kassebaum-Kennedy" health insurance reform
bill, after the two senators who spearheaded the bill. Amongst other things
it sets out medical information security, privacy and data standards.
